Our PLA is a biobased material (Polylactic Acid) formed by the polymerization of lactide, and obtained from Lactic acid extracted from post-industrial biological waste. Our PLA makes a real difference amongst polyamides, as we are not using any petroleum nor any chemicals in the process.

It is made with corn, cassava, sugar cane or beets, following these certifications:

• It is harvested in a naturally grown agriculture, certified by ISCC PLUS (The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification)

• There are no genetically modified materials involved, certified by the European Institute Eurofins Genescan.

Our PLA is harvested from crops that were not created for producing PLA, but that were already being used for the animal feed industry. For obtaining the PLA, we are using the starch, while the proteins are being used for food, not causing any shortcomings to the animal feed industry.

The PLA in our PYRATEX® fabrics is a sustainable alternative, as its manufacturing produces approximately 80% less greenhouse gases than the manufacturing of traditional polymers: our PLA produces 0.62 kg CO2/ kg polymer, whereas PVC produces 2.42 kg CO2/ kg polymer.

The production of our PLA uses approximately 52% less non-renewable energy than traditional polymers: our PLA uses 40.05 MJ/ kg polymer, whereas PVC uses 58.97 MJ/ kg polymer.

The other fiber in this fabric is Refibra, a pioneering cellulose fiber, produced in the lyocell production process, is made from pulp that contains recycled cotton scraps left over from cutting operations and wood.


This fiber allows to reduce the need to extract additional raw materials from nature lowers the impact on natural resources. Refibra is made based on EU award-winning tencel® technology, the most eco- friendly production thanks to its closed loop production of 99.7% and its use of bioenergy. It combines wood as a renewable raw material from sustainable forest plantations, with the recycling of cotton scraps.

The hemp fiber in this fabric is of European origin. It is amongst the most versatile natural fibers, coming from a fast-growing plant requiring very little water and no herbicides, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMO seeds. In comparison, cotton is more water-intensive and takes longer to reach harvest age, producing less fibres per acre.

It is a naturally antibacterial fiber with a great heat capacity ratio compared to all other fibers: it keeps the wearer cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
